Imperial Vienna: Timeless Elegance

Walk in the footsteps of the Habsburgs, visit the splendid baroque Schönbrunn and Belvedere Palaces, or stroll along the magnificent Ring Boulevard and take a look at the heart of the former vast Habsburg empire, the Imperial Palace: A stroll around Vienna can be like a journey back in time to the days of the empire. Examples of the city’s illustrious history await on virtually every street corner.

Autumn is museum time

In the autumn, Vienna's museums present outstanding artists from important epochs of art history. For example, the Belvedere deals with the topic "Klimt / Schiele / Kokoschka and the Women" (from end Oct.), the Leopold Museum indulges in masterpieces of German expressionism in "Farbenrausch" (Craze of Colors - from Oct.) and the Albertina shows the works of the famous Norwegian artist Edvard Munch (from end Sept.). The offering at the museums is complemented by numerous other contemporary art events such as Viennafair in October and Vienna Art Week in November.

Colorful autumn in the big outdoors

People who are drawn outdoors on sunny autumn days will find many promising spots on a walk in the Lainz Game Reserve or on one of the city hiking trails in the Vienna Woods. The autumnal mood bathes palace façades and parks in an atmospheric light. The wine growing areas on the edge of the city are also especially idyllic at this time of year.
