A glimpse into the initiative
What is Trachoma?
Trachoma is a bacterial eye infection found in poor, isolated communities lacking basic hygiene, clean water, and adequate sanitation. It is easily spread through eye-seeking flies, hands, and clothes. Repeated infection leads to scarring and inward turning of the eyelid, a painful condition called trichiasis— eventually causing blindness if left untreated.
About Noor Dubai Foundation
Noor Dubai Foundation is a UAE based charity focused on the prevention of blindness and visual impairment globally. It was launched as an initiative in 2008 by the Vice president and Prime Minister of the UAE and the ruler of Dubai His Highness Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum and was later established as an NGO by Law in October 2010. Over 24 million individuals from all over Africa and Asia have benefited from the free treatment and preventive programs conducted by the Noor Dubai Foundation as well as the provision of free glasses and medication. As a member of the recently launched Mohammed Bin Rashid Global Initiatives, the Foundation continues to strive towards fulfilling the Vision 2020 initiative of a world free from avoidable forms of blindness.
