Connections to ease your holiday wallet

Over the last year, a number of airlines introduced new non-stop flight routes from the UAE, bringing cultures from the intrigue of Almaty to the glamour of Los Angeles closer than ever before.

Now, while the convenience of arriving in a snap is great if you've saved up for your next trip or have a screaming toddler, our Travel Experts found that connecting flights can sometimes both ease your holiday wallet and be close enough on all other counts to be serious food for thought. Besides, if you're going to spend a couple of hours flying in either case, a walk through the transit lounge will work wonders for your feet.

Here's what they found for twelve of those routes on an Economy class round trip in February. Be sure to consider the additional time you'll need to spend in the transit lounge before you choose a connection though. For example, while the connecting flights from Dubai to San Francisco or São Paulo may save you a thousand or two, they'll cost you an additional six to eight hours in transit, so be sure to bring along a good read and a PSP.
