Owned by Chan Hon Meng, this popular street food stall offers the world’s cheapest Michelin-starred meal at just US$1.45. In July 2016, this stall received a one-star rating from Michelin which implies ‘very good cooking’.
The stall has a neon sign and rows of hanging cooked chickens. Soy sauce chicken rice is its signature dish. People love it so much, that on an average - this place sells nearly 180 lunch chicken dishes every day. Other dishes include char siew noodles and pork rib hor fun.

The origins of Liao Fan Hawker Chan?
The huge success of Hong Kong Soya Sauce Chicken Rice & Noodle motivated Meng to open a quick-service restaurant that he named: ‘Liao Fan Hawker Chan.
The restaurant can accommodate 80 diners and also offers take-out service. The menu is similar to the above street food stall; the additions include wonton soup and Thai-style tofu with combo platter options. Of course, it’s more spacious with amenities that include an air-conditioner.
However, this comfortable dining experience comes with a slightly higher price. The soy sauce chicken rice dish that you would get for SG$2 at the street stall will now set you back around SGD$3.80 which is approximately US$2.76.
