The Greek cuisine is known around the world for the creamy Feta cheese, tender lamb, and the rich olive oil. However, the unique traditional desserts are extremely delicious, making it almost impossible to decide which ones are the best. After hours and hours of struggling and drooling over these pictures, we've summed up our top 5 must-try favorites.

Loukoumades (Honey Puffs)

Loukoumades are as mouth-watering as they seem to be in the picture. Once you have that first one, we bet you won’t stop. Their golden colour comes from frying ball-shaped dough and dipping them in sweet syrup with sprinkles of cinnamon and walnuts as preferred.

Most people think of the popular Baklava when it comes to Greek dessert. The tasty dessert is done in so many different ways. Ingredients added to the regular Baklava can range from pistachios, chocolate, honey, cream cheese, mangoes, and so many more.

Galaktoboureko (Milk Pie)

Another popular local dessert is the crispy Galaktoboureko or milk pie. It is a sweet pastry with layers of phyllo sprinkled with melted butter, filled with creamy custard, and dipped in syrup.

Melomakarona (Honey and Spice Cookies)

During the Christmas holidays in Greece, every house starts baking Melamakaronas. This famous Greek dessert is mainly made from flour, olive oil, and honey to form a soft cookie which is then covered in chopped walnuts.

Kataifi

This heavenly dessert is made from a special type of pastry called Kataifi. It combines a moist yet crispy feel. The dessert is mainly chopped walnuts with ground clove and cinnamon wrapped in the buttered kataifi dough. It is then soaked in lemon syrup. Do we really need to say more?
