    Singapore Airlines was established on May 1, 1947, and commenced operations in October 1972. It is the flag carrier of Singapore and has its main hub at Singapore Changi Airport. A Star Alliance member, Singapore Airlines is ranked 10th in the world for international passenger traffic and is among the top 15 carriers in the world in terms of revenue passenger kilometres. Also, in December 2010, Singapore Airlines achieved the feat of being the second largest airline in the world in terms of market capitalization, worth a whopping 14 billion USD, by the International Air Transport Association.

    The Singapore Girl, dressed in the traditional sarong kebaya, is the iconic Singapore Airlines ambassador and is symbolises Asian hospitality.

    The Fleet

    Singapore Airlines was the launch customer of the largest passenger aircraft, Airbus A380, and today operates a fleet of 106 aircraft. It continuously strives to maintain a young fleet, with an average age of 7 years and 7 months. As of now, it deploys all wide-body aircraft in its fleet with Airbus A330-300, A380-800, A350-900, and Boeing 777-200, 777- 200ER, 777-300, and 777-330ER.

    Singapore Airlines flies to 35 countries across six continents; along with its subsidiary airline, SilkAir, Singapore Airlines travels to around 62 cities, making it the airline with the highest number of international routes in the Southeast Asian region. Few of the popular destinations include Tokyo, Darwin, Barcelona, Rome, Denpasar, Copenhagen, Singapore, Milan, Cape Town, Sao Paulo, Osaka, Houston, New York, Dubai, and Auckland.

    Baggage information

    Baggage allowances and size limitations depend on the route of the flight, so for detailed information, kindly visit the airline website. Generally, depending on your PPS/KrisFlyer/Star Alliance membership, you are entitled between 50-100 kg of checked-in baggage in Suites and First Class; between 40-80 kg for Business Class; between 35-60 kg for Premium Economy Class, and between 30-60 kg for Economy Class.

    For Cabin baggage, up to 2 pieces are allowed per head for Suites, First Class, and Business Class travellers, and 1 piece each for Premium Economy and Economy Class passengers. No piece of carry-on baggage should exceed 7 kg or a total dimension of 115 cm.


    Frequent flyer program

    The frequent flyer loyalty program offered by Singapore Airlines is KrisFlyer and is a three-tier program. You start earning miles once you fly with either Singapore Airlines or any of its alliances, SilkAir or Star Alliance partners. Depending on the miles you collect by travelling, you will be upgraded to either KrisFlyer Elite Silver or KrisFlyer Elite Gold. An additional PPS (Priority Passenger Service) Club provides all privileges, and more, of Star Alliance Gold membership on Singapore Airlines and on Star Alliance members. The program allows you incentives such as lounge access, extra check-in baggage allowance, upgrades, hotel stay, and more.
