Munich has some of the very best skiing facilities in Europe
It's winter and you know what that means: book your tickets to Munich, one of the most beautiful cities of Europe where you can enjoy your winter vacation. Munich is an amazing place to visit at any time of the year, but there are special charms to be found in winter. Munich is a winter wonderland, especially for outdoor sports enthusiasts. The city is blanketed in beautiful white snow, making it the perfect destination for outdoor winter activities. With breath-taking surroundings, there are plenty of activities to do in this Bavarian capital from exciting shows & performances to attending a variety of arts festivals and not to forget skiing in the Alps including the Zugspitze, Germany's highest peak at a height of 2,962 meters (9,718 ft) and much more. You will be spoilt for choices.
Here are a few activities you need to be prepared for before you start enjoying the gorgeous snowy landscapes of Munich:
Skiing

Did you know that Munich has some of the very best skiing facilities in Europe? Whether you're looking for beginner slopes or challenging runs, you'll have it all around the Bavarian capital. There are many world-class ski resorts located 90 minutes or less from the centre of Munich, most of which are reachable by train. If you'd rather not ski, you can always enjoy the fresh mountain air by taking a stroll along the many hiking trails in the area.
Snowboarding

Like skiing, snowboarding is a great way to get your adrenaline pumping during the winter. There are several specialized centres within the city where you can go to test your skills on a variety of terrains. You can combine these activities with a trip to the nearby spa for a well-deserved rest afterward!
Ice Skating

The frozen surface of the canal at the Nymphenburg Palace (the Wittelsbach family’s former summer residence) is a favorite among locals and tourists alike. Just about 50 centimetres deep, the canal provides a strong platform of ice during the winter month.
Snowshoe Hiking in the Bavarian Alps

There's nothing quite like snowshoeing through the woods on a crisp winter day. This activity will give you the chance to discover the beautiful scenery of the mountains around Munich, as well as the hidden villages that are often only accessible by foot.
Sledding around Munich

A traditional mode of transport for short journeys, the authentic sled is made of wood and is the perfect way to see the sights. Choose from Munich’s three main sledding hills in Munich: the Englischergarten at Monopteros; Olympiaberg which has a tube run; and Luitpoldhügel. Sleds are not always available but you can invest in a simple seat for sledding at any sporting goods store. Other spots to go sledding are Neuhofener Berg, Maximiliansanlagen, Rodelhang Teufelsberg, Theresienwiese, and Westpark.
The city also offers plenty of cultural attractions, such as the Bavarian State Opera, the Deutsches Museum, and the Alte Pinakothek. Visitors can also explore the city's many historic churches and monuments, such as the Frauenkirche and the Marienplatz. Of course, no trip to Munich would be complete without trying some of the city's famous hops. Whether you're looking for a winter getaway or a cultural experience, Munich has something for everyone.
