Lufthansa German Airlines

    The Lufthansa Group operates as an aviation group, and comprises of over 400 affiliates and subsidiaries. With its headquarters in Germany, it operates in five other segments – logistics, MRO, passenger transportation, catering and IT services. The parent company, Lufthansa AG, is the largest single operating company in the entire group. In 2013, the airline group welcomed over 104.5 million passengers on board their network of flights. As of April 2014, the airline’s sales revenue stood at over $17.26 billion.

    Fleet

    The Lufthansa fleet consists of Airbus A380-800, Boeing 747-8, Boeing 747-400, Airbus A340-600, Airbus A340-300, Airbus A330-300 and Boeing BBJ 737-800 IGW aircraft for long-haul routes. For medium-haul routes, it uses Airbus A321-100/200, Airbus A320-200, Airbus A319-100, Boeing 737-500 and Boeing 737-300 aircraft. The regional fleet consists of Embraer ERJ-195, Embraer ERJ-190, Bombardier CRJ900 and Bombardier CRJ700 crafts. On the whole, the group fleet currently consists of over 620 airplanes, with an impending order for another 260 to be delivered between 2014 and 2025.

    Destinations - route network 

    There are over 2,086 daily departures across more than 235 airports in 78 countries. The airline covers various destinations around the world in the major continents of Europe, Asia, Africa, North and South America. The primary hub remains at Munich and most of the destinations covered are within Europe.

    Via their Frankfurt and Munich hubs, all business and leisure travellers are offered excellent connections to all the important business centers and holiday destinations in Germany, Europe and the world. There are more than 5,350 frequencies a week worldwide to over 205 destinations across 75 countries. 

    In-Flight Facilities

    Lufthansa offers four classes of travel, first-class, business class, premium economy and economy. First and business class is offered in most long-haul routes. Some flights, like the Airbus A380s and Boeing 747-400s, are fitted with a spacious first-class section in the upper deck of the craft. A single ticket in the upper deck consists of a window side bed and an aisle side seat.

    Most long-haul routes also have business class seating. Here, the seats convert into large beds, with a large seatback entertainment screen. Premium economy was introduced in 2014 on flight of the Boeing 747-8s. Here, the seat pitch is 38 inches, as opposed to the 31 inch pitch offered in the economy section. Irrespective of the travel class, free meals and drinks are served on all international flights.

    Snacks, delicious meals and beverages are served in-flight and a selection of newspapers and
    magazines is available. 

    Lufthansa passengers enjoy access to numerous current newspapers and magazines in different languages and genres as free eJournals that are easily downloadable onto their own smartphone, tablet or laptop before the flight.

    Flexible check-in 

    Lufthansa passengers can check in from 23 hours before departure and choose their seats via:

    • Online check in - they can check in on their PC at home or in the office, print out their online boarding pass or opt to receive the mobile boarding pass
    • Mobile check in - passengers check in using their mobile phone and receive the mobile boarding pass instantly
    • Alternative - Check in at the airport machines and drop off the baggage at the self service kiosk

    Lufthansa has a dedicated first class check-in counter in most of its serving airports and also offers dedicated first class lounge facilities. Apart from this, it also has a dedicated first class terminal in Munich and Frankfurt. On arrival, passengers are greeted to the Welcome lounge and enjoy other facilities, like priority immigration and priority baggage collection.
