Japan

March in Japan typically starts off with winter, progressing slowly towards spring. During the first two weeks, the ancient capital Nara is the place to be in Japan. There are a range of different rituals that take place during this time to celebrate the Omizutori Festival. The fiery displays include several monks parading each night with large burning torches, showering the surrounding crowds with embers for purification and good luck. Don’t miss out on visiting Nara Park, where stunning deer freely roam around. For the rest of the month, you will definitely notice beautiful cherry blossoms beginning to bloom in parts of the country like Tokyo, Osaka, and Kyoto. As soon as the cherry blossoms are noticed, Hanami flower viewing parties start taking place under the trees (around 15th of March until mid-April). The enthusiasm this country has for these beautiful flowers is quite addictive.

Sri Lanka

Sri Lanka, known as the “pearl of the Indian Ocean” is a small country,  with unmatched reputation for its natural beauty. The centre of the country or The Cultural Triangle contains the most popular landmarks and five UNESCO World Heritage sites. During March, the weather is perfect in The Cultural Triangle, hill country, and the city of Kandy. The island offers endless views of lush green forests and exotic wildlife. Don’t miss a chance to climb the Lion Rock of Sigiriya for a great panoramic view and visit the Temple of the Tooth in Kandy. Sri Lanka tourism has been on the rise for years and now is your chance to visit the iconic destination.

Georgia

Georgia, known for its medieval architecture, timeless culture, and overwhelming scenery, is settled between the Black Sea and the Caucasus Mountains. March marks one of the best times of the year to visit the vibrant country with its ideal weather, ahead of the frequent rainfall expected during April and May. Georgia is popular for its unusual yet stunning old towns, magnificent churches and monasteries, charming watchtowers, soaring mountains, delicious cuisine, and very friendly locals. Attempt to learn the language to engage with the locals and you might just get to experience the amazing country off the beaten path. The snow-capped summits provide a great opportunity for adventure seekers too.

Cape Town, South Africa

In March, the climate pattern in the southern Cape region of South Africa (Cape Town and the Garden Route) is completely different from anywhere else on the continent. You will experience hot sunny weather (ideal to hit the beach) and stunning blue skies in Cape Town during this time of year. As a result, it’s peak season for the magnificent city. The “Mother City” of South Africa boasts a unique mix of vibrant culture, interesting museums, spectacular majestic mountains, and beautiful beaches. There are several events in March that make it quite a busy month in Cape Town, including various cycling races, performing arts festival called Infecting the City, and the Cape Town Carnival.
