Air Mauritius

    Established in 1967, around 49 years ago, Air Mauritius became the flag carrier of Mauritius. The main hub of the airline is at Sir Seewoosagur Ramgoolam International Airport. The airline plays an important role in The European, African and Indian Ocean region markets. In 2011, the airline won the Indian Ocean Leading Airline Prize.

    This marked it as the 7th year in a row to win the award. Air Mauritius Holdings Ltd, owns 51% of the ownership of the carrier and remaining by the Mauritius government. As of 2014, the airline had 2309 employees.

    The fleet

    Currently, the airline has a fleet size of 13 with aircraft from Airbus family. During 2014, the airline signed a MoU with Airbus for 6 Airbus A350-900. This also came with an option of 3 or more aircraft between 2023 and 2025. The airline plans to join the aircraft in the fleet by end of 2017 and the rest will join by 2020. The present fleet consists of A319-100, A330-200, A340-300, A350-900, ATR 72-500.

    Destinations

    The airline currently caters to 24 destinations. In 2015, Air Mauritius signed an agreement with several airlines to improve services between the Indian Ocean Commission members. After Air India started its flights on behalf of Air Mauritius, Shanghai became the 26th destination catered by the company.

    As per April 2013, the top 5 routes of the airlines include Mauritius-Reunion, Mauritius-Paris, Johannesburg, Antananarivo, and London. This is the biggest destinations served by the airline for the seat availability. Besides these, the airline caters to Australia, Europe, Asia, Africa and U.K.

    The business class passengers can enjoy the award winning airline with several premium facilities. It has 60-inch pitch seats which provide complete privacy.     The airline provides online check-in service through its official website. The passengers should check-in 1 hour before departure for domestic flights.
