Alitalia Airlines

    Established in 1999, Alitalia is the flag carrier of Italy with the centre hub in Leonardo da Vinci-Fiumicino Airport, Rome. The airline has a secondary hub in Milan Linate Airport, in Milan. In 2014, Alitalia Airlines became the 11th largest airline in Europe. In August 2014, Abu Dhabi-based UAE airline Etihad Airways came in agreement with Alitalia to take 49% stake in the airline. In 2016 Alitalia announced to cancel all flights from Pisa, Moscow, Prague, Berlin, Catania, and Tirana. But, the airline maintains flights from Olbia and Rome.

    The fleet

    Alitalia has one of the most advanced fleets in Europe after a huge upgrade project took place between 2010 and 2014. Currently, the fleet includes 98 Airbus and Boeing aircraft with an average age of 8.1 years. In January 2015 the airline announced that 3 A330-200, 2 B777-200ER, 3 B777-300ER would join the fleet starting from May 2015. Alitalia is a punctual airline, with over 90% of their flights arriving and departing on time during 2013.

    Destinations

    Currently, the airline Alitalia serves 102 destinations as of April 2015. The airline has a codeshare agreement with 335 airlines. Alitalia has since arranged code-share agreements with SkyTeam members. Despite the main hub, the airline has 5 other Italian and Albanian airports as focus cities.

    Since the codeshare agreement with Sky Team members, passengers can fly to numerous destinations with Alitalia ticket. In addition to the joint venture between KLM and Delta the profits are shared between the airlines.

    Business Class

    Alitalia has 2 types of business class, Ottima and Magnifica. Ottima is the short and medium haul business class with an improved catering service and baggage allowance. It also comes with a dedicated check-in and access to VIP lounges in the airport. Magnifica, the long haul business class comes with new catering, comforts and flat-bed seats on Airbus A330-200 and 777 aircraft.

    Onboard Facilities
