Bangkok Airways

    Bangkok Airways was founded in 1968 and is headquartered in the Chatuchak District of Bangkok, Thailand. When it first began air transportation services in 1968, the airline was called Sahakol Air. It then went on to become the first private aviation company in Thailand. Later, in order to meet the increasing demand for air transportation, Bangkok Airways officially began operations in 1986, as the country's first privately-owned domestic airline. It positions itself as “Asia's Boutique Airline,” with its main hub at Samui Airport.

    The fleet

    Bangkok Airways has fleet of 27 aircraft, with many on lease and an average age of 8.5 years. The airline has a mix of single-aisle and single class configuration (all Economy Class) flights. The current fleet comprises of 8 ATR 72-500s, 10 Airbus 319s, 8 Airbus 320s and 1 ATR72-600. Each aircraft is decorated in the different livery of each exotic destination served as of November 2014.

    Destinations

    The airline serves 11 domestic and 13 international destinations. Currently, Bangkok Airways has obtained permits to operate scheduled flights on over 20 different major routes, covering nearly all major resort destinations in Thailand. Additionally, the airline has obtained permits to fly internationally to Myanmar, Laos, Cambodia, Malaysia, Singapore, India, Bangladesh and Maldives. It has also invested in building and maintaining its own privately-operated airports at Samui, Sukhothai and Trat, in Thailand. Its main base is Suvarnabhumi Airport, Bangkok.

    For Blue Ribbon Club members (Business Class), an array of special provisions are available, such as a separate check-in counter to hasten the check-in process, personalized service, special lounge facilities, comfortable seating and menu selections ranging from Thai to other Asian and even Western dishes, plus a provision for complimentary wine and champagne.

    Ground facilities

    They have two lounge facilities – the Blue Ribbon Club (for business class) and Boutique Lounge for other travellers. The ambience and facilities are world class. They also offer special services for pregnant women and people with disabilities.

    Before you leave home

    Make sure to check the restricted items list and baggage allowance limit while packing your luggage. For Economy class, the maximum weight allowance is 20 kilograms for adults and children, and 10 kilograms for infants. For the Blue Ribbon Class (Business Class), the maximum weight allowance is 30 kilograms for adults and children, and10 kilograms for infants.
